What is BJJ? 

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling based martial art that first developed in Japan and then evolved further in Brazil and America; it is now recognised worldwide as one of the most effective forms of self-defence available today. BJJ can be mastered by people of all ages, fitness levels, and physical abilities. BJJ’s driving principle is that a smaller, weaker person using proper technique can successfully defeat a bigger, stronger opponent.  

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is also known as the “Gentle Art”. Being grappling based, BJJ teaches students how to defend themselves safely without the use of striking or punching. 

Why train BJJ?

BJJ can keep you safe, but beyond that it is an incredible medium for self-development; allowing you to increase strength physically, mentally, and emotionally so you are better equipped to deal with challenges and enjoy life more fully.

Combat Room is a family and community club that supports everyone in their BJJ journey; whether you are there to learn the fundamentals, improve yourself, train for competitions, or to make friends we will work with you to achieve your goals. We want to share with our community the benefits of a healthy and challenging martial art that teaches humility, determination and strategic thinking inside a positive, family oriented team environment. 

Combat Room Kids uses the A+ BJJ learning method, developed from over twenty years of experience in high performance sport. We use our 3 A’s of achievement, in conjunction with our core values of Compassion, Courage, and Respect, to teach effective self-defence and sport BJJ techniques.

Our aim is to use BJJ as a training ground for developing resilient and confident individuals able to live a happy and fulfilled life, prepared to face any challenge. As a consequence, this individual strength can be positively directed in to helping our family, friends, community and greater environment.
